Te Manawa - Tool Making

At Te Manawa we all learnt about Maori things and tools.

Some tools were made out of bones to carve patterns with and Warren made patterns out of stones too.
Maori travelled all round New Zealand to get all sorts of stones. And they used to drink out of moa's eggs. Once they drank the moa egg, they got some flax and plaited it into a bag, sort of.That was so they could put the moa egg in it. They stored water in the bag to go travelling.

Te Manawa - Tool Making

Yesterday at Te Manawa, we met a man named Warren. He taught us about Maori weapons. He used shark teeth for the drill.
He had a bird trap and the Maori put berries in it and then the bird would eat them and it would get stuck.

He even had a black cloak. If the chief was going to get into a fight, he would get his black cloak on and sneak up behind the enemy, camouflaged, and his enemy wouldn’t see him and kill him.
They used flax to make their bags and traps.
Sometimes they ate the moa eggs and used the shells as drink bottles.
They used water on sandstone to sharpen their stone so it wouldn’t get all bumpy.
That is why they had the sandstone for that job. That stone was heavy and had lots of dust on it. They had greenstone to make their tools as well.

Te Manawa Visit

Jorja and Seth are printing their names.
Jorja has rolled orange ink over her letters.
Seth, Adam and Sunny are
dressed up.
Aaliyah said,"we all got to have a turn at putting some things in the mixture and then we put spoonfuls on the hot griddle and got to flip the pikelets over.

Making Pikelets

We went to Te Manawa. We all made pikelets. The lady we went with was called Mary. The girls pikelets turned out better than the boys. The boys ones didn`t taste nice. We got to taste everyones pikelets.

Riding The Hobby Horse

Me and Jess are on the hobby horse because we were going to the knights house. At the museum we did lots and lots of things like printing, shaving, making pikelets, making butter, dressing the woman, ironing and it was really fun and cool. Me and Jess put furniture in a dolls house too.

Jolly Nigger Bank

Rachel and Rebekka are playing with the Jolly Nigger Bank.
We are putting money on it's hand and pushing the lever down, so it can feed itself.
It is made out of metal and it is really heavy. It's over a hundred years old and it was used to keep Mrs Noaro's grandma's front door open.
When you push the lever down, its' brown eyes go up. It looks like it eats money and the money goes into its' tummy to keep it safe. It's hard to open because you have to undo the screw.
Everybody enjoyed feeding the Jolly Nigger Bank because they'd never seen one, or played with one before. By Rachel and Rebekka

On The Farm

On the farm we have a Quad bike. When we go on it, we put

fences up. When we get in the cows, the bike gets muddy.

Avatar By Taylor

We got Avatar last night to watch. It wasn't scary. Me and my brother were

watching it. There were people in it and the people were in machines having

dreams about Avatar.

Duck Shooting By Corbin

I went duck shooting in the weekend and I shot 5 and my dad shot 20. And we

put up fake decoy. We put up a camel mimi. My dad had a shotgun and it was

easy to shoot ducks because the bullets spread. But I had a 22 so it only shoots

one bullet.
