Camp Reports - 5th November

Camp is Fun by Abby

Camp is fun because you can play lots of games.
We were put in tents, and even if you aren’t put with your
friends, it is still fun because you can play all sorts of games.
Next time you’re bored, ask to go camping, it’s fun.
You can discover new people.
I like it because you sometimes even get a surprise, like we did, and it was fireworks. I had seen mostly all of them because we had had the same ones the night before, but I still enjoyed them.
We played Tug-o war against the parents and guess who won? We did!

Camp was Awesome by Jessica

The camp was fun, awesome and exciting, and the food was very yum.
The fireworks were really cool from all the lovely patterns they made.
We were put in tents, and I was with Abby, Samantha, Rachel and Jorja. And Abby’s mum, Deb, was next door.
I liked camp because there were so many games to play.
The funnest thing about camp was that it was not like home, and it felt different. My favourite thing about camp was the fireworks.

At the Dental Nurse

At the Dental Nurse, I had a big filling in my mouth and a painful injection. When the needle was in my mouth, it felt like
my mouth was bleeding. And after that I got to choose tooth mousse and a sticker. My mouth felt weird.

Frank's Magic Show

My class and I had a wonderful time at Frank's Magic Show! I will tell you what we saw. Two pirates did a good dance. One pirate was wearing blue and the other was wearing orange. I think of the time when two girls did magic tricks. One trick was with a lot of cups and balls. I thought it was a funny Show.

Firey Hangi

The lifting part of hangi is going to be fun.
I have been thinking about it all day. I think the Hangi food is going to be delicious.
Jonathon

The Hangi was very flamey and smokey. The men got lots of newspaper and stuffed it into the wood in the dug out hole. It was very hot and fun watching. We all got smoke in our eyes, and I put my jersey on the wrong way and I put my hoodie over my face.
Zak

Hangi

There was a lot of wood, and a lot of food. The men did all the hard work. Nathan, Lauren, Amy, and I were not allowed to smell smoke because we get asthma. There was smoke, smoke everywhere. Everyone was running around the wood, smoke, and fire. Everyone was excited and could not wait for the hangi. My nana is coming and my dad is not coming because he is waiting for a girl who is coming to my house for the weekend.

THE GREEN FOREST

WRITTEN BY RENEE HEAYNS

Far, far away, a mystical island stands. Some people think it is mystical, but no one knows. It’s as green as Tane, the God of the forest.

One day a very big fire came and destroyed half of the island. Tane was very sad, and very, very angry. Anyway hunters came on ships. They destroyed all the living things on the island. This time Tane was very, very, very, very, very angry. He stomped his feet. He thought he’d make an earthquake. He had a plan. He would destroy whoever made fire, and destroy the hunters. And destroy, whatever was coming up next!

Then the fire person came out of the trees and the hunters too. Tane was finding free space. BANG BASH! He made the biggest earthquake he had ever done in his life. He banged the fire person and the hunters. And look at that! Tane was astonished. There was a Tsunami! Tane was scared but he was brave too. He put his hand in front of his head, and pushed and pushed and pushed. He pushed hard as…..then BANG! BASH! CRASH! Tane fainted.

Then what a sight, all the animals that were hiding when the hunters came, appeared. The animals pushed and pushed and pushed, just like Tane did. The Tsunami was gone and so was Tane.
Tane was very happy with all the animals. And so, all the animals were given different kinds of powers because……… Tane was so, so happy.

Hangi Day is coming Sunny and Jorja

The Hangi is coming. The teacher said it will be here next Friday.
The hangi is what Maori people do. People are doing the hangi for us. The people's names are Dale Pope's dad, Kane, Trigger and Howard's dad. Our mums and dads are coming. We are doing songs, Hoea te Waka, Papaki Mai and Mahunga. The food is lamb, pork, chicken, kumara, potatoes and mixed vegies.
The people that are helping, are all kids. The hangi sounds yum.

The Sporty Car

The car is new and very shiny, its windows are curved and very
fragile. The car looks like it could move very smoothly and its
chairs look very comfy. It looks shiny because it is silver, and it
looks like it has a black window on the back. The mirrors are
pointed to the ground and the tyres are black as black could be. The fragile windows have
rubber around them and they are like a Dragonfly's wings. The headlights look like they would
be very bright. It is not moving because no one is driving it.

Te Manawa - Tool Making

At Te Manawa we all learnt about Maori things and tools.

Some tools were made out of bones to carve patterns with and Warren made patterns out of stones too.
Maori travelled all round New Zealand to get all sorts of stones. And they used to drink out of moa's eggs. Once they drank the moa egg, they got some flax and plaited it into a bag, sort of.That was so they could put the moa egg in it. They stored water in the bag to go travelling.
By Samantha

Te Manawa - Tool Making

Yesterday at Te Manawa, we met a man named Warren. He taught us about Maori weapons. He used shark teeth for the drill.
He had a bird trap and the Maori put berries in it and then the bird would eat them and it would get stuck.

He even had a black cloak. If the chief was going to get into a fight, he would get his black cloak on and sneak up behind the enemy, camouflaged, and his enemy wouldn’t see him and kill him.
They used flax to make their bags and traps.
Sometimes they ate the moa eggs and used the shells as drink bottles.
They used water on sandstone to sharpen their stone so it wouldn’t get all bumpy.
That is why they had the sandstone for that job. That stone was heavy and had lots of dust on it. They had greenstone to make their tools as well.

Te Manawa Visit

Jorja and Seth are printing their names.
Jorja has rolled orange ink over her letters.
Seth, Adam and Sunny are
dressed up.
Aaliyah said,"we all got to have a turn at putting some things in the mixture and then we put spoonfuls on the hot griddle and got to flip the pikelets over.

Making Pikelets

We went to Te Manawa. We all made pikelets. The lady we went with was called Mary. The girls pikelets turned out better than the boys. The boys ones didn`t taste nice. We got to taste everyones pikelets.

Jolly Nigger Bank

Rachel and Rebekka are playing with the Jolly Nigger Bank.
We are putting money on it's hand and pushing the lever down, so it can feed itself.
It is made out of metal and it is really heavy. It's over a hundred years old and it was used to keep Mrs Noaro's grandma's front door open.
When you push the lever down, its' brown eyes go up. It looks like it eats money and the money goes into its' tummy to keep it safe. It's hard to open because you have to undo the screw.
Everybody enjoyed feeding the Jolly Nigger Bank because they'd never seen one, or played with one before. By Rachel and Rebekka

Avatar By Taylor

We got Avatar last night to watch. It wasn't scary. Me and my brother were

watching it. There were people in it and the people were in machines having

dreams about Avatar.

Duck Shooting By Corbin

I went duck shooting in the weekend and I shot 5 and my dad shot 20. And we

put up fake decoy. We put up a camel mimi. My dad had a shotgun and it was

easy to shoot ducks because the bullets spread. But I had a 22 so it only shoots

one bullet.

Cinderella and the Troll

Once upon a time a little girl was running away from home because her mother told her never to

go into the cave again. That was her favourite hiding spot. So she found the cave and

started to tiptoe in. She got so far in that she could not see the door anymore. Then she

saw a shadow, it looked like a troll. She started to turn around but the troll saw her. She was still

tiptoeing back to the outside when she heard a Grrrrr behind her. She started to run and then

she started to sprint. She fell over, again and again, but then the troll fell over and she

escaped. She ran home and never went outside again.

The Map on my Hand

My hand is a map. You can have a V or a Z. It is a map to Wellington and Christchurch and Levin.
By Sunny

The Map on my Hand

The map on my hand feels soft and the twirls on my hand look like the twirls that you would see if you were in a Portal. The lines on your hand, look like a river of veins running down it. The blue veins on my hands, look like an ocean, with a ship sailing down it.

By Jonathon Boyd

The Map on my hand

The map on my hand feels bumpy and rough. It has got lots of lines that are rivers. One line leads to my house and the school. The map on my hand has whero and ma spots. My fingers look like people surfing on a wave. The lines look like seawead hanging from a surfboard. My palm looks like it's a map that can move!!!

My Thoughts on the Swimming Sports

When I hopped in that pool, I felt like I was going to come FIRST! But I came second, that was good for me though. I was in the relays and I thought my House was going to win. It was really fun because there were lots and lots of swimming competitions! In most of my races,I came second, but in one I came third. The School Swimming Sports started from the start of the day till the end of the day. After that we got a free swim which cooled us down a lot.

Zak's Spider

My spider was spinning its web. It looked like it was floating in space.

The Spider

The spider was climbing on my roof and we caught it and then it went crazy.

I made a little house for my spider and I put the spider in it and the

spider was crawling in the tunnels and stayed in the tunnels.
